Choosing a console table or TV stand
A console behind a sofa should sit at or just below the height of the sofa back, usually 28-32 inches. In a hallway, keep the depth to 12-16 inches so people can pass easily. For a TV stand, pick a length at least as wide as the screen and a top height that puts the middle of the screen near seated eye level - about 40-42 inches from the floor once the TV is mounted or standing.
How long should a TV stand be?
At least as long as the TV is wide, ideally 6-12 inches longer on each side. A 65-inch TV is about 57 inches wide, so a 66-80 inch stand looks balanced.
What is the right height for a console table?
Most console tables are 28-32 inches tall. Behind a sofa, match the height of the sofa back or sit just under it; in an entryway, 30-32 inches is comfortable for keys and a lamp.
